DIY: Fabric Hoops

Please say hello to my new mantle. I spotted the idea of the fabric hoops from my friend Stefanie's pinterest {originally spotted on The Purl Bee} a while ago. I fell in love with the idea instantly, but didn't have time to put it into action until now.

Materials
To make one fabric hoop
  • A square of fabric, at least 2" wider than your hoop in all directions. I used scrap fabrics along with fabric quarters you can purchase from Joann for $1.99 {they're on sale right now for .99 cents}
  • A wooden embroidery hoop in any size {I got mine from Hobby Lobby and they were .79 cents - $1.99}
  • Elmer's or fabric glue of any type
  • Fabric scissor

  • Place fabric in the hoop, pull taught
  • I originally trim all the extra fabric, but after a couple of trials, I figured that it looks better if you leave a little bit of extra fabric. You can run a small line of glue around the inside hoop, just next to the fabric
  • Press fabric into glue, all the way around
  • Allow glue to dry
  • Trim fabric to edge of hoop

I also used one of my old favorite t-shirt from To Write Love On Her Arms that I can no longer fit in.

I wanted to add some more personal touch with something special to the hubby and I. We used this phrase a lot {almost as much as I love you} around our house. I made this with some rick rack from Joann and fabric glue, but I didn't like the way it turn out at all, so I"ll probably experiment with some more ideas.

It is still a work in progress because I haven't found a frame for my grandma picture yet. I'm also on the hunt for some less generic fabric, so I'll post the final product at a later date.

Do you have or know of any online fabric resource {on the cheap, please}? I"m making a trip to Ikea this Sunday, so maybe I'll find some fun and a bit more eclectic fabrics there.

Sleeping in and a comfy bed

I got to sleep in today till about 7 this morning {I usually wake up at 5am} . I did some reading and emails in the comfort of my bed. I rolled around taking my time getting out of bed. I absolutely love mornings like this.

This is my unmade bed. Once I've save up enough money for my bedroom make over, maybe my bed will look something like the beds below.

This is my ultimate dream bed. sigh.

Bed one, two, three, and four.

Oh Christmas lights, keep shining on

Currently on repeat right now is Christmas Lights by Coldplay

My hubby and I finally got to go shop for our Christmas tree this past Sunday night. We were debating between getting a real tree or a fake one. We ended up going for a real one, because it was at the moment cheaper and I thought we should try it out as least once as a married couple. We ended up falling in love with our tree and agreed to continue to do so each year.

We just went to one of those Christmas tree lot that usually set up in some random empty field. It was FREEZING and I did not have any gloves on, so it only took us about 10 minutes to find our tree. All in all, it was a really fun experience and I can't wait to do this with our kids in the future and make it tradition.

The under 5 ft trees corner was my favorite area.

I thought this tree was super cute mainly because it was shorter than me.

Hubby and me.

We found our tree!!!!!! It's a pretty awesome tree, and just for $30 too.

We set the tree up as soon as we got home, but didn't start decorating it till tonight. I can't wait to put all of our ornaments up.

Hi Holly!

I went shopping yesterday for a new wreath, but I couldn't find anything I like. So I decided to make my own. This wreath was inspired by my friend Amanda Christmas ribbon wreath. You can see the tutorial for her Christmas ribbon wreath here.

p.s Don't you love my red door? I am slightly obsessed with my red door, enough that I want a red door for all the houses that I will live in for the rest of my life.

Cardboard Safari

I am head over heels for these cardboard animals right now. I am thinking about purchasing Buck Jr. and Eyan Jr. to put above my fire place mantle right now. What do you think?

Check out the rest their unique cardboard home decor here.
